APDU and Beesset were among the companies working to introduce a new payment system on vehicles of the operator Carris
Lisbon's urban transport operator Carris has just launched a new ticket payment system, allowing people to pay for their journeys by card, without having to print a ticket. Polish companies APDU and Beesset were involved in the project.

Thanks to a newly implemented solution, travelers on Lisbon's distinctive yellow trams and buses can pay their fare by bringing their card, smartphone, or smartwatch close to the reader on the vehicle. In this way, it is possible to pay a fare for oneself or a group of up to 10 people - in this case, the number of travelers for whom payment is to be made must be increased on the touchscreen before the payment instrument is brought close to the reader.
On the technological side, the Polish APDU is behind the solution. The billing agent is SIBS (owner of PayTel). The reader application - Ingenico Open1500 - and the fare calculator were implemented by the Portuguese company Card4B. The sales portal, meanwhile, was created by Poland's Beesset, with which APDU has already collaborated on implementations for public transport operators in Kraków, Białystok, Grudziądz or Bielsko-Biała.

The solution has been implemented in vehicles operated by Carris. The company serves the northern right bank of Lisbon, manages more than 800 vehicles, and transports 36.5 million passengers annually. However, the contribution of Polish companies to improving payments for public transport in this part of Europe does not end there. SIBS, which works with APDU, also won the public transport payment system (MTT) tender for Transportes Metropolitanos de Lisboa. This operator handles 600 million journeys a year across the Lisbon conglomeration. APDU told cashless.pl that the Polish company will also be involved in this project.
