Instead of returning the phone to the customer, the driver generated Blik codes and withdrew funds from the victim's account at ATMs
Warsaw police officers have detained a taxi driver suspected of robbing his customer of nearly PLN 25,000. The man had broken into three bank accounts of the victim, who had carelessly left his phone in the driver's vehicle.

According to officers' findings, the driver spotted and memorized his customer's phone and mobile banking PIN codes when he used his banking app to pay with a Blik code for a ride. Unluckily for the victim, he accidentally left his phone in the taxi, and the driver decided to seize the opportunity.
Knowing the code to unlock the smartphone and the PIN to the app, the suspect generated Blik codes with which he withdrew money from ATMs. In addition, he ordered himself several pairs of shoes from an online shop, for almost PLN 5,000. After reaching the limit of possible transactions, the man threw away the victim's smartphone. In total, the losses of the forgetful passenger were estimated at nearly PLN 25,000.

The offender heard a charge of burglary by overcoming an electronic barrier. During questioning, he admitted to committing the offense. As he acted under conditions of recidivism, he faced up to 15 years' imprisonment.
